Dandy Lion is owned by mother of two, Lehani Steyn. She started this unique, local clothing brand in 2014 in order to bridge the gap in the local market for fun and practical designer clothing items. She struggled to find truly unique, high quality yet affordable clothing for her daughters, and decided to take inspiration from her own mother and make it herself. She had always wanted to start her own business and create jobs, and this was just the inspiration she needed. Dandy Lion has quickly become synonymous with handmade quality amongst its dedicated clients. Lehani follows her heart to create clothes that foster adventure, encourage self-expression and are destined to be dreamy, durable wardrobe favorites
All of the magic that you find on this website gets made by hand in her home studio, which just so happens to also be her garage. In the beginning, Lehani made everything herself spending days sewing in the little Wendy house in their garden. As word spread and Dandy Lion became more and more popular, she was able to expand and move to her garage. Today she can say with a happy heart that she has 5 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee.
All Dandy Lion items, besides the muslin range, is 100% local. Everything is made, printed and dyed right here in Cape Town. Supporting the local economy and her fellow South African entrepreneurs is something Lehani is extremely passionate about. She understands all too well the challenges South African small business owners face, and by supporting local she contributes to creating job opportunities and empowering our local communities.
The name Dandy Lion is a tribute to her stillborn son, and the wishes she had for him. Dandy Lion is a brand full of heart, soul, life, and wonder… We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
